Cooking With Lavender 101

Lavender Simple Syrup

Lavender is a plant that is unique to Kentucky. You may wonder what to do with your lavender bundles. We love to create a lavender-infused simple syrup. This is a fast and easy start to many exciting culinary experiences. Remember to use culinary buds for the best flavor (Royal Velvet, Folgate, Melissa or Buena Vista).

Lavender simple syrup can be used to make Lavender Lemonade, Lavender Iced Tea, Iced Lattes and other mocktails and cocktails. It can also be drizzled over pancakes or used to make a gourmet sundae (vanilla ice cream, blueberries and lavender syrup).

Recipe:

Prep Time (1 minute)

Cooking Time (5 minutes)

Ingredients:

1 cup sugar

1 cup water

1-3 tablespoons lavender buds (depending on desired color and flavor)

Directions:

Combine the water and sugar in a small saucepan. Bring the mixture to a light boil and stir until the sugar dissolves. After approximately 5 minutes, remove the pan from the heat. Add the lavender buds and let the mixture steep and cool for 30 minutes. As it steeps, the syrup will take on a pinkish color. Use a mesh strainer to remove the buds. Store the syrup in a jar in your fridge until ready to use. Enjoy!
